WEEKLY ECONOMIC CALENDAR AHEAD

Here is what you need to know about the important news between December 12th 2022 and December 16th 2022, where we take a look at the economic data, market news and headlines likely to have the biggest impact on the market prices this week and beyond, as well as the US Dollar, and other key correlated assets.

U.S. dollar index

US Dollar Index (DXY) extends the previous weekly gains, the first in three weeks, with investors bidding that it will refresh its high level of 105. Getting into the week, investors are focusing on the Interest rates release along with the FOMC meeting, with the expectations to be the rates to be hiked once again

Gold

Gold started the week with a small pullback, the first after 4 straight winning days. The pullback can be linked to the US Dollar’s recovery. However, a lack of major data/events on Monday challenges the bullion sellers. The focus is for this week the FOMC meeting, and the rates increase, which can show to investors how the FED officials see inflation going, through rates increase aggressively or not.

Oil

Oil prices rose as much as more than 1% on Monday as a key pipeline supplying the United States remained shut while Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened to cut production in retaliation for a Western price cap on its exports. The price gains on Monday for Brent and WTI came after both grades fell last week to their lowest since December 2021 amid concerns that a possible global recession will impact oil demand.

Stocks

Ahead in the week, market participants will be closely monitoring consumer price index data on Tuesday, and the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision and statement on Wednesday, with policymakers set to raise rates by 50 basis points following four months of 75 bps hikes. In addition, traders will be watching retail sales, manufacturing and services PMIs, industrial production, and the Philadelphia Fed Manufacturing Index.
