Here is what you need to know about the important news between February 13th, 2023, and February 17th, 2023, where we take a look at the economic data, market news and headlines likely to have the biggest impact on the market prices this week and beyond, as well as the US Dollar, and other key correlated assets.
U.S. dollar index
US Dollar Index stays defensive after two-week uptrend with market participants look ahead to US CPI data on Tuesday. Both headline and core inflation have shown encouraging disinflationary momentum and markets rejoiced on the mere mention of this in the FOMC statement.
Gold
Gold declined to near one-month lows, as traders awaited more cues on the U.S. economy from key inflation data due this week. The prospects for further policy tightening by the Federal Reserve (Fed) continue to underpin the US Dollar and act as a headwind for Gold.
Oil.
“Crude prices are softening as energy traders anticipate a potentially weakening crude demand outlook as a pivotal inflation report could force the Fed to tighten policy much more aggressively,” said Edward Moya, senior analyst at OANDA, referring to U.S. consumer price data due on Feb. 14.
