Here is what you need to know the important news this week between November 15th 2021 and 20th November 2021.
Inflation proved to be a problem in the stock market this past week, after both producer prices and consumer prices increased more than expected. The consumer price index jumped 6.2%, a three-decade high. The inflation theme should continue this week with CPI from UK, Canada and Japan featured. Also, eyes will be on how FOMC members would react to the current “transitory” surge in inflation.
Retail sales is the big economic report for the week, when the Census Bureau releases October data on Tuesday. Investors will also be watching the outcome of the virtual meeting between President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday evening for signs of any warming of relations on trade and other issues.
Central Bank
The Reserve Bank of Australia on Tuesday took a major step toward unwinding extraordinary pandemic stimulus policies by abandoning an ultra-low target for bond yields and opening the door for an earlier hike in cash rates. Australia’s central bank sounded a more dovish tone than investors had anticipated, in the first of several central bank meetings this week, sending the Aussie to it’s biggest one-day loss since Sept. 29.
The Fed will announce its policy decision on Wednesday, and the Bank of England will do so on Thursday.
In other respects, on Monday (November 15), the Beijing Stock Exchange will officially open for trading. At present, more than 2.1 million investors have made appointments to open the Qualified Investor Authority of the Beijing Stock Exchange.
